The Senior Distribution Designer is responsible for designing or reviewing designs of electric distribution lines for conformance to client requirements, applicable codes, and project processes and procedures as well as designing/reviewing designs for constructability and technical accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with project engineers to produce or review overhead and underground distribution design packages. Deliverables included in work order packages can include but are not limited to construction drawings, materials inventory (install and removals), environmental/FAA/permitting releases, easements, fielding photos and notes, distribution planning coordination requests, and GIS maps.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of department and company goals.

    Attend meetings with clients, vendors and governing agencies as required.

  • Initiates/communicates work with other disciplines.
  • Preparation or Review of working drawings using computer-assisted design (CAD) from rough sketches, verbal instructions, and engineering data (approved drawing templates, previous drawings, and drawings from clients) considering agreed project schedule.
  • Prepare details to specify dimensions, materials, and processes.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with applicable company and client standards and procedures.
  • Ensure the detailed drawings are prepared and transferred to the assigned Supervisor in a clear and timely manner.
  • Provide clear and concise comments and justifications where design deficiencies are observed.
  • Provide general notes per supervisor’s instructions without grammatical errors.
  • Review revised designs for incorporation of comments.
  • Must be diligent to constantly seek improvement of drafting skills through self-study.
  • Performs minor administrative tasks.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-establish guidelines to perform functions of the job
  • Identify trends or new issues and raise them for management review along with potential solutions.
  • Participate in special projects or tasks as required.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma is required; post-secondary education and Electrical degree or certification is preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in overhead distribution design is required
  • 3+ years of PG&E program experience is required
  • Knowledge of overhead electric utility distribution design and construction standards and industry practices
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and/or independently
  • Must be adaptable and flexible
  • Proficiency utilizing knowledge and skills with MS Office Suite (including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Outlook) and computer applications
  • High level of personal integrity with a strong work ethic

 

Preferred:

  • 8 years overhead and underground electric utility distribution and/or transmission line design experience including applicable codes
  • Knowledge of detailed material and labor requirements for construction of overhead electric utility distribution pole replacement projects
  • Knowledge of underground electric utility distribution design and construction standards and industry practices
  • Experience with construction of distribution and/or transmission lines
  • Experience with CPUC GO-95 and GO-128
  • Experience with California utilities distribution and/or transmission line design and/or construction is highly preferred

 

Salary Range: $62,400-$124,800 per year

 

Work Location: Remote

 

Visa Sponsorship: Legal authorization to work in the U.S.A. on a full-time basis without sponsorship

 

Physical Requirements: Ability to pass a pre-authorized physical including a drug-screening and background check
