Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Field Distribution Designer to join our team. As a Field Distribution Designer, you will play a critical role assisting personnel with on-site inspections of pole data surveys/inventories for our client(s), preparing and assisting in field notes and estimating. Your responsibilities will include collecting information through visual survey of each component of pole systems, measuring pre-determined features, documenting findings in systems/tools, and ensuring compliance with National Electric Code (NEC). Additionally, the position will support engineering and design assessments and pole loading analysis utilizing O-Calc Software.

Responsibilities

Works with the engineering and design team at Cordoba for field investigation and design to review overhead and underground distribution design packages.can include but are not limited to construction drawings, materials inventory (install and removals), voltage drop calculations, environmental/FAA/permitting releases, easements, fielding photos and notes, distribution planning coordination requests, and GIS maps. 

 

Onsite Field Survey:

  • Conducts thorough field surveys to measure pole line heights, distances from structures/easements, and gather required pole data.
  • Input field data into O-Calc software and provide preliminary design.
  • Collaborate with engineering and/or design teams to provide field support to ongoing projects.

Structural Loading Calculations:

  • Perform meticulous structural loading calculations in strict compliance with NEC and pole owner protocols.
  • Analyze pole types, classes, riser details, attached facility types, weights, diameters, span footages, drip loops, etc.

Cable Placement Plans:

  • Develop and comprehensive cable placement plans post-pole analysis, addressing all remedies required for new attachments to meet NEC and pole owner protocols.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Create and maintain detailed tracking sheet in provided tools and complete all requirements for job packages.
  • Effectively communicate survey findings to the designer, highlighting areas of compliance and identifying potential risks.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop solutions for any non-compliance issues identified during field survey.

Accurate Measurement Capture:

  • Demonstrate the ability to capture precise measurements of attachment heights, span distances, and utility structures. QA/QC of field data collected.

Detail Orientation and Organization:

  • Display a high level of detail orientation and organization skills, effectively managing field data and map/layout information.

Manual Dexterity and Tool Utilization:

  • Exhibit excellent manual dexterity and proficiency in utilizing tools such as measuring wheels, height sticks, pull finders, and rangefinders.

Independence and Supervision:

  • Perform independently with minimal supervision, exercising latitude to achieve daily objectives.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Quickly identify potential issues with proposed routes and demonstrate the ability to solve problems efficiently.

Knowledge:

  • Understands and applies knowledge of overhead or underground electric utility distribution designs and construction standards, applicable codes, and industry practice to produce reliable and technically sound designs and/or quality control reviews.
  • Has a working knowledge of California utility overhead and underground standards and applications.

Qualifications

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.
  • Able to work on multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to move freely and navigate uneven terrain during on-site inspections.
  • Availability for travel to different work sites within Northern California required.
  • Proficiency utilizing knowledge and skills with MS Office Suite (including MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Outlook, MS-Teams).
  • Knowledge or experience working with Bluebeam or PDF
  • High level of personal integrity with a strong work ethic.
  • High school diploma required.  Post-secondary education preferred.  Electrical degree/certification preferred. 
  • Ability to pass a pre-authorized physical test including a drug-screening and background check.

 Preferred:

  • Experience in pole calculations or survey work in utility, telecommunications/construction industry.
  • Proficiency in utilizing software O-Calc.
  • 1-2 years of experience in utility or related field. We will also consider senior level Field Distribution Designers.
  • This role will be 50% fielding and 50% remote design

 

Salary Range: $54,080 to $124,800/year
