Responsibilities

Project Engineer I:

  • Provides technical and engineering support to the Construction Manager.
  • Coordinates with District staff, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants, and other construction support staff.
  • Participates in and occasionally runs design and/or construction meetings.
  • Conducts construction field checks to determine compliance with job specifications, plans, established district standards, and Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements.
  • Reads and interprets construction plans and shop drawings.
  • Assists in preparing written materials, including correspondence, reports, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Supports the development of weekly/monthly status and photos reports for the project team.
  • Reviews, estimates, negotiates, and processes construction change orders and construction field orders.
  • Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts.
  • Manages and directs contractors and outside consultants, including reviewing and approving invoices.
  • Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues
  • Coordinates with Architects for timely and accurate responses to requests for information, submittals, Construction Change Documents, etc.
  • Generates and distributes meeting minutes (construction meetings, design meetings, etc.)
  • Confirms contractor’s maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor.
  • Maintains project files in both electronic and paper format.
  • Reviews submittals for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Other job-related duties or projects as assigned.

  

Project Engineer II:

  • Reviews and enforces construction and professional services contracts.
  • Manages and directs contractors and outside consultants, including reviewing and approving invoices.
  • Support the initial pre-planning, planning stages, engineering and design stages, construction support, execution stages, and closeout efforts.
  • Coordinate with the project team, including Managers and Technical Supervisors, Field Engineering Representatives, and other departments, subcontractors, and organizations to complete the assigned projects.
  • Support construction efforts as deemed necessary for project construction.
  • Understand project scope, project delivery, cost, and schedules.
  • Ensure that the assigned projects are completed safely, producing a quality product that is in accordance with governing codes, agencies, and client requirements as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Interface with the client and the project team to complete the assigned work within schedule and budget.
  • Facilitates resolutions of construction and design issues.
  • Coordinates with Architects for timely and accurate responses to requests for information,
    submittals, Construction Change Documents, etc.
  • Generates and distributes meeting minutes (construction meetings, design meetings, etc.)
    Confirms contractor’s maintenance of record drawings prior to monthly progress payments to the Contractor.
  • Report progress in achieving the required work scope to the client on a regular basis.

 

 Senior Project Engineer:

  • Provides design, technical and administrative support during the preconstruction phase, construction phase and closeout phase.
  • Manages project document control, circulating, receiving, tracking, and maintaining organized document files, i.e.
  • Review plans, meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, change orders, ASIs, schedules, etc.
  • Responsible for circulating, receiving, tracking, and maintaining organized document files throughout all phases of design development, permitting, etc.
  • Reviews comments from stakeholders, i.e. circulating design documents for review, collecting review comments, compiling, vetting, tracking, etc. to ensure issues are addressed.
  • Assists with change order management including reviewing change order requests for merit and fair pricing and prepare change orders for processing.
  • Manages the closeout and turn over process.
  • Prepare project files for system audit at project completion.
  • Monitors site conditions verification and provides support as needed.
  • Sets up meetings as needed, note taking and follow-up.

Qualifications

Project Engineer I:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field preferred
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in engineering or construction management
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles and practices, including design, construction, and project management
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic project management software

 

Project Engineer II:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field preferred
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in engineering or construction management.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools, such as AutoCAD, Primavera, or MS Project.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including safety and environmental requirements.

 

Senior Project Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field. PE preferred
  • 6-8+ years of relevant experience in engineering or construction management.
  • Extensive experience in project management and team leadership, with a proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Excellent client management and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent the company in high-stakes situations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business development skills, with the ability to identify and pursue new opportunities.

 

 

Salary Range

Project Engineer Level I: $60,000 - $80,000

Project Engineer Level II: $90,000 - $110,000

Senior Project Engineer: $115,000 - $200,000
