Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Civil Engineer to lead the design and development of transportation infrastructure, specializing in rail and track projects. This role will focus on engineering design elements such as track alignment, drainage systems, site layout, and supporting infrastructure for rail projects and associated facilities. As a generalist civil engineer with a transportation background, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful planning and execution of rail-related projects. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage and work with other engineers, drafters, and designers to prepare the required design, specifications, and details for assigned projects, considering efficient economical production and installation of engineered work and budget limitation of each design element.
  • Verify employees' work for accuracy, proper work methods and techniques, compliance with applicable standards and specifications, and completeness of design.
  • Develop site layouts, grading, and drainage solutions to meet project requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Perform advanced professional engineering in including drainage systems, site layouts, track alignment, and grading.
  • Provide advanced professional engineering in connection with site development projects.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work on major or complex engineering projects.
  • Utilize design software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and rail specific modeling tools.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications and technical reports.
  • Review a variety of construction plans, maps, reports, applications, and various agreements.
  • Determine design procedures and interpret the application of design criteria.
  • Check plans and specifications for accuracy.
  • Prepare preliminary and final project cost estimates.
  • Review and approve payments for subconsultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Review plans and make recommendations regarding design and constructability.
  • May assist in field engineering and inspection ti ensure quality and safety compliance.
  • Independently perform assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.
  • Maintain documentation records of generated design deliverables.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all levels of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.
  • 10+ years’ experience performing professional engineering work
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Autodesk software such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, and InfraWorks
  • Bluebeam Revu and Studio Sessions
  • Experience with engineering design elements such as track alignment, drainage systems, site layout
  • Proficient in SWPPP concepts and designs
  • Ability to supervise, mentor and coach junior team members
  • Experience interfacing with clients as a technical lead

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Involvement in industry associations
  • Experience with geotechnical and structural considerations for rail infrastructure
  • Prior experience working on transportation rail projects
  • Familiarity with AREMA standards and railway construction best practices

 

Salary Range: $185,000 to $225,000 per year.

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Work Environment: Hybrid - Three times a week in the office.
